Mississippi State football coach hot board: 8 replacements for Zach Arnett
By Ethan Lee
Jamey Chadwell
Zach Arnett’s out. Mississippi State could benefit greatly from an innovative head coach who wins in difficult jobs. To the surprise of nobody, Jamey Chadwell over at Liberty has seen his name pop up a time or two.
And he’d be a great hire for the Bulldogs.
Chadwell has extensive experience leading programs and achieving new levels of success. Most notably, his time at Coastal Carolina involved the Chanticleers becoming a force to be reckoned with.
During the five seasons Chadwell was at Coastal Carolina, the Chanticleers managed to go 39-22 from 2017 to 2022. That includes building from three wins in a season to having two 11-win seasons in a row in 2020 and 2021.
Oh, and by the way, if you want a fun offense, Chadwell can absolutely deliver. Given how dreadful Mississippi State’s offense has appeared so far this season, it’s crucial that the Bulldogs find a way to be fun and get fans engaged once more. With Chadwell leading things, this Mississippi State program could theoretically build a really fun offense once again.
Though, it’d be a bit different than what the Bulldogs ran under Mike Leach.
Pros
- Proven track record of building success in difficult jobs
- Fascinating offense
- Familiarity with coaching in the South
Cons
- No SEC experience
- Might be expensive to hire away from Liberty
- He’s popular, so how picky will he be with his next job?
Chadwell is someone who should be at the top of a lot of lists right now. He’s not just going to draw interest as it pertains to Mississippi State’s coaching search. He’s arguably one of the best coaches in the country and will almost certainly be highly sought after for a few different jobs. How picky will he be? Will MSU be the right fit for him?
