Basketball season is upon us. Here’s what you need to know as the Mississippi State women’s basketball team gets the season started.
It’s finally basketball season!
After what seemed like an eternity of waiting, Sam Purcell’s Mississippi State basketball team is set to get the season started at home as they host Alcorn State in the brand new and shiny Humphrey Coliseum.
Purcell and his Bulldogs were dominant in the Hump last season as they managed to go 14-2 at home during the 2022-2023 MSU women’s basketball season. The Bulldogs should be able to get a nice, solid win to start the season.
But just how good will MSU look?
Well, hopefully this game is over before halftime. With the talent the Bulldogs have in Jessika Carter, JerKaila Jordan, and Erynn Barnum (among other talented stars), this should be a strong showing from MSU.

This season could be pretty promising for Purcell and the Bulldogs. There’s a lot of potential for it to be great, but there are also a few new faces around the Hump this season. Early contests like this provide Mississippi State with an opportunity to build momentum and gel as a team.
Which, if the Bulldogs are going to challenge the upper echelon of the Southeastern Conference this season and cause plenty of headaches for the better programs in the conference, then games like this season opener could be pretty important for MSU.
Plus, Mississippi State fans just need to see a team get a nice, dominant win. This seems like a good opportunity to do just that.
