Mississippi State football: SP+ prediction favors Kentucky vs. Bulldogs
By Ethan Lee
After a disastrous outing against the Auburn Tigers, Zach Arnett and the Mississippi State football team are looking to bounce back vs. Kentucky.
Last week’s Mississippi State football team was an absolute disaster of a showing for Zach Arnett and the MSU Bulldogs and it was incredibly painful to watch. Miss. State lost in an incredibly ugly game.
Even though there were some decent play calls on the side of the offense, execution and the ability to make precise passes seemed to be a problem for MSU. On the defensive side of things, the Bulldogs were gashed and bludgeoned by multiple big plays from Hugh Freeze’s offense and MSU just fell behind by too large a margin to mount a comeback with a dysfunctional offense.
And so, now back home after some ugly road trips, the Mississippi State Bulldogs are looking to start the month of November on a high note as they host the Kentucky Wildcats.
How does Bill Connelly’s SP+ projection view that? Well… Things aren’t great for Miss. State.
Mississippi State football: Can the Bulldogs bounce back against Kentucky Wildcats?
When looking at the SP+ picks and predictions, the computers don’t have Mississippi State coming out on top of the Kentucky Wildcats.
Despite the fact that this game is happening in Starkville, apparently Miss. State is such a mess that SP+ happens to believe the Bulldogs will lose. Per Connelly’s number crunching, Mississippi State drops this one by a score of 29-23.
As the Bulldogs currently sit at 4-4 overall and 1-4 in SEC play, Arnett’s Mississippi State team needs a win to get back on track before closing out the season. Should the Bulldogs find a way to get an unlikely victory over Kentucky, MSU’s bowl eligibility hopes would come back to life a bit and the decision about whether or not to fire Arnett becomes complicated once more.
But who knows what will actually happen?
This team has been consistently inconsistent. Just an incredibly difficult team to develop expectations for. And that makes predictions hard to make.
