After the Mississippi State football team fell flat on its face vs. Auburn, Zach Arnett’s name has been placed on another hot seat list.

Mississippi State football fans aren’t having any fun this season and there’s almost certainly no way that Mississippi State head coach Zach Arnett is enjoying himself either. After losing another frustrating game and seeing his team perform in an incredibly disappointing manner, Arnett’s name has ended up on another national college football writer’s hot seat list.

Ross Dellenger (a Mississippi State alumnus, by the way), who is a national college football reporter for Yahoo Sports, now has Arnett included amongst coaches who could conceivably be on a hot seat right now.

Dellenger noted on X (the social media platform previously known as Twitter) that Yahoo Sports spoke with industry experts regarding these potential openings. Of course, Dellenger also explained that in his article.

And what else did Dellenger discuss?

Well, when it comes to focusing on Zach Arnett and Mississippi State, Dellenger points out that it’s odd for a lot of institutions to consider moving on from a coach who hasn’t even completed a full season. There are no off the field issues that would lead to that sort of change happening.

“Would they really make a move so soon?” Dellenger asked.

Well… As the Yahoo Sports reporter pointed out, the circumstances in which Arnett was promoted to head coach were odd.

Oh! And Mississippi State’s buyout for Arnett is incredibly manageable for the Mississippi State football program. Dellenger is now at least the third major college football reporter to bring that fact up.

Will the Bulldogs move on from Arnett?

That remains to be seen. There’s still one-third of the regular season remaining and that means there’s enough time for the Bulldogs to pull off some upsets, get some impressive moments on the resume, and make Mississippi State football fans forget about all of the miserable moments that have happened up to this point.

But it’s also worth noting that MSU’s bowl streak is in danger. The Bulldogs are among the schools with the longest bowl streaks in the country and literally half of Miss. State’s bowl appearances have happened during this stretch.

If State can’t make a bowl this season after winning nine games a season ago and returning a significant amount of offensive production from last season, then maybe we need to have some serious questions about Arnett.

On top of that, MSU’s defense is dreadful. One of the worst in the country at stopping quarterbacks. That’s not going to reflect well on the Bulldogs’ head coach.
