Zach Arnett and the Mississippi State football team will look to build momentum on the road once more. Here’s what their depth chart looks like vs. Auburn.

Saturday afternoon, Zach Arnett and his Mississippi State Bulldogs have the opportunity to complete a 3-0 stretch in October that could actually significantly impact the way many view this Mississippi State football season.

The 2023 Mississippi State Bulldogs have been a mess and they’ve underachieved, but MSU has a chance to get another SEC West win and build some momentum to help get this season turned around.

This weekend, the Miss. State Bulldogs are meeting up with Hugh Freeze and the Auburn Tigers in Jordan-Hare Stadium.

While the Bulldogs have looked like a messy team led by a first year head coach who is still learning how to lead a program from the start of this season, MSU is 4-3 on the year and 1-3 in SEC play. The Bulldogs have won their last two games and are ready to face a team that is at least as flawed as they are.

And here is the depth chart as it is listed for this MSU football game.

Mississippi State football depth chart: Bulldogs offense vs. Auburn Tigers

On the offensive side of things, the Bulldogs have Will Rogers listed ahead of Mike Wright. Is Rogers healthy and will he play? I have no clue. Woody Marks is listed at the top of the running backs, but he hasn’t looked healthy for months now. Should he play? I don’t know.

Does anyone know? Great question. I don’t. I don’t think he’s fully healthy and I think there are other running backs that are available.

But, well, I don’t make those decisions.

So, as we approach this game, maybe take the depth chart with a grain of salt. Because Will was listed as the starting QB a week ago and that definitely wasn’t the case.

Mississippi State football depth chart: Bulldogs defense vs. Auburn Tigers

I’m among the MSU football fans who tend to believe that Zach Arnett had an influence in how the defense was called last week. I don’t know to what extent, but there was a drastic turnaround in how the defense looked and it’s not just because Dan Enos struggled as the Arkansas offensive coordinator this year.

I like Arnett taking ownership of the defense. I’m cool with that. I don’t know how sustainable it is in the long run, but it helps right now.

And it’s a lot better for him to be the architect of the defense than it is for him to ask the offense to slow down.

Mississippi State football depth chart: Bulldogs special teams vs. Auburn Tigers

MSU wasn’t exactly great on special teams last week. Maybe we see that change this week? Maybe things just go smoothly and there’s nothing frustrating at all at any point ever?

We can dream, right?

The Bulldogs have a golden opportunity to get a road win in the SEC. If they can do that this weekend, they’ll be 5-3 on the year and looking to lock up bowl eligibility in a hurry. And that is something that would definitely be welcomed when considering how MSU has looked at times this season.

There were moments when it sure looked like State wouldn’t make it to a bowl at all. So, let’s take a step towards bowl eligibility once again, shall we?
