Mississippi State football can’t be error prone vs. Razorbacks
By Ethan Lee
When the Mississippi State football team meets up with the Arkansas Razorbacks, the Bulldogs must limit their mistakes if they hope to leave with a win.
The Mississippi State football team has made plenty of mistakes all throughout the season up to this point. And now, as MSU hopes to take on Arkansas and get an SEC win (and take a step towards bowl eligibility), the Bulldogs absolutely can’t afford to play a sloppy football game on the road.
Especially against the Arkansas Razorbacks.
The Arkansas Razorbacks have proven to be pretty efficient at taking advantage of turnovers
Something worth remembering is that Arkansas has scored 54 points off of turnovers so far this season. The Bulldogs, meanwhile, have only scored 24 points off of turnovers. That’s a very sizable disparity between these two teams.
But, thankfully for the Bulldogs, the Mississippi State football team might have some opportunities to score a few points off of turnovers this weekend as Arkansas has been just about as clumsy with the football as MSU has this season. The Bulldogs have turned the ball over seven times (four interceptions and three lost fumbles) while Arkansas has turned the ball over seven times (six interceptions and one lost fumble).
That said, while the turnover count is equal, Arkansas has been sloppy and the Razorbacks have had 11 fumbles total this season. As for MSU? The Bulldogs have fumbled just three times.
If State can get a little lucky and the Bulldogs can also take advantage of when Arkansas does make a mistake, then that could be a big for MSU’s shot at upending the Razorbacks. But Mississippi State must also limit its mistakes as the Bulldogs face an opportunistic Arkansas defense.
The Mississippi State football team can’t afford to make major mistakes on the road
It’ll be really important for the Bulldogs to ensure that they win the turnover battle this weekend. The Bulldogs’ turnover problems aren’t the only issues they’ve had so far this season. Penalties, at times, have been a slight problem. Nothing major, as MSU saw in multiple games in 2018, but it’s been a bit of an issue on occasion.
But thankfully, the Bulldogs have proven to be a notable bit more disciplined than the Arkansas Razorbacks have been this year.
MSU ranks at No. 41 in the country in terms of penalty yards per game at 45.67. Arkansas, on the other hand, is No. 83 in the country at 56.71.
As State tries to play a clean football game free of mistakes, they’ll be facing a sloppy football team that has been just as error prone as the Bulldogs have been. And that should give MSU a very real shot at getting a win here.
Should State limit its errors, then maybe we see something great happen this weekend.
