The Mississippi State Bulldogs have lost a commitment from an in-state cornerback as PJ Woodland announced his intentions on Sunday.

Well, after some good MSU football recruiting news earlier this weekend, it appears that the Bulldogs were due for some bad news. Zach Arnett and his Mississippi State football staff have apparently lost a commitment from a talented 2024 in-state cornerback.

It’s safe to say that’s not great for MSU!

While PJ Woodland was previously committed to join the Bulldogs’s 2024 Mississippi State football recruiting class, he has since made it clear that he is now decommitted from Arnett and the Bulldogs.

Woodland announced back in June that he was committed to play for the Bulldogs. Unfortunately for Mississippi State football fans, it sure appears like things have changed since Woodland’s commitment happened.

Mississippi State football recruiting: Talented 2024 in-state cornerback decommits from MSU Bulldogs

Woodland announced his new decision on X (the social media platform previously known as Twitter):

And On3 confirmed the news:

Woodland isn’t the highest ranked player in the 2024 recruiting cycle in Mississippi, but he is talented and this is a notable loss for MSU.

247Sports currently has Woodland rated as a three star defensive back, but he’s also considered the No. 17 rated recruit in the state of Mississippi for this cycle.

It’s not clear exactly where Woodland will end up committing next. In theory, there’s still a chance for the Bulldogs, but that doesn’t seem likely right now. Teams like Auburn, LSU, Tennessee, Ole Miss, Texas, and Texas A&M have all extended offers to the cornerback from Hattiesburg, according to Woodland’s 247Sports profile.

Arnett made several hires over the offseason to try and help put a greater emphasis on recruiting in Mississippi and he’s seen some noteworthy wins here and there. Unfortunately, not every talented kid in the Magnolia State will end up playing in Starkville.

And it seems like Arnett has his work cut out for him as he recruits in this cycle.
