With the college basketball season almost here, let’s take a look at the 2023-2024 Mississippi State women’s basketball schedule.

The Mississippi State basketball season is almost here and that means MSU head coach Sam Purcell and his Mississippi State women’s basketball team will soon have an opportunity to build upon the success they found last season.

The Bulldogs are looking to make some noise in the SEC after going 22-11 and ending up in the NCAA Tournament last season. How will the Bulldogs fare this year as they try to move up in the always rigorous world of SEC basketball?

Well, let’s start examining the 2023-2024 Mississippi State women’s basketball schedule.

2023-2024 Mississippi State women’s basketball schedule has interesting non-conference matchups

Things start off relatively smoothly for Purcell’s Mississippi State basketball team. The Bulldogs will bring in-state foe Alcorn State to Starkville on November 6 to get the season started and will then host Southeastern Louisiana, Jacksonville State, and New Orleans before things get a little rigorous.

After that, MSU faces off against the likes of the Miami Hurricanes. Oh, and later the Bulldogs will get to play Gonzaga in Houston and also have to face the Memphis Tigers and Colorado State Rams.

Things are generally pretty manageable for MSU, but there are some pretty interesting non-conference matchups on the slate this season.

5 interesting non-conference matchups for Mississippi State women’s basketball team

  • November 24 vs Gonzaga (Houston, TX)
  • November 25 vs Liberty (Houston, TX)
  • November 29 vs Miami
  • December 17 at Memphis
  • December 20 at Colorado State

Sam Purcell, Miss. State Bulldogs look to build on successful 2022-2023 Mississippi State basketball season

While Sam Purcell’s first season in Starkville had some ups and downs, the Bulldogs were generally pretty successful last season. Purcell got MSU moving back in the right direction and the Mississippi State women’s basketball team ended the year at 22-11 overall all while making it to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

Interestingly enough, MSU didn’t fare well in road games and went 3-7 on the road last year, but the Bulldogs thrived in neutral site matchups and managed to go 5-2 in such games during the 2022-2023 Mississippi State women’s basketball season.

Purcell and the Bulldogs will look to build upon that foundation as they head into this season. And with Jessika Carter back for another year, there’s a very good chance Miss. State thrives once again this season.

But MSU will have to contend with the likes of Kim Mulkey and the LSU Tigers as well as Dawn Staley and the South Carolina Gamecocks. Neither are looking to loosen their grip on controlling the SEC this season.

  • March 3rd – vs Missouri (Starkville, MS)

And after that, we’ll see Sam Purcell and his Mississippi State basketball team try to compete for an SEC Championship in the SEC Tournament. It certainly won’t be easy, but Purcell sure seems to be a coach on the rise. He’s young, a dynamic recruiter, and really coached the Bulldogs up a season ago.

It’ll be fascinating to see what this team looks like this year as it tries to elevate what was established las season. This should certainly be an exciting season for Mississippi State women’s basketball fans to keep up with.
