Let’s start looking at the Mississippi State football depth chart as the Bulldogs get set to face off against the Western Michigan Broncos.
Saturday afternoon, Zach Arnett and his Mississippi State football team will get to host the Western Michigan Broncos in Starkville. Interestingly, this is the first time the Miss. State Bulldogs get to meet up with Western Michigan and the Bulldogs desperately need to get a win.
Unfortunately for MSU football fans, the Bulldogs are struggling right now and are on a losing streak. State has lost its last three games and the Bulldogs really haven’t played a complete game all season.
Now MSU has a non-conference showdown ahead of the Bulldogs’ bye week. Here’s who is listed within the Bulldogs’ two deep.
Mississippi State football depth chart: Bulldogs offense is struggling, but has potential
Starting with quarterback, MSU will have Will Rogers, who has been a staple for the Bulldogs throughout his career. Rogers isn’t thriving right now, but his resume is impressive. Still, folks are interested in seeing how Mike Wright might be able to help Miss. State’s offense move forward thanks to his ability to run the ball rather impressively.
Speaking of running the ball, Jo’Quavious “Woody” Marks was listed as MSU’s starter, but he has been banged up a bit. Still, Marks has proven how tough he is as he is thriving in the new pro-spread offense and has a real feel for what Kevin Barbay wants to do.
Along with Marks at running back sits Jeffery Pittman and Seth Davis, who have shown that they can thrive as they rotate in.
Lining up at wide receiver stands Lideatrick “Tulu” Griffin and Justin Robinson. Tulu has shown that he can be a dynamic pass catcher as he thrived against South Carolina and is up to 409 receiving yards on the year. Expect to see Zavion Thomas also play as a factor in the passing game with guys like Creed Whittemore, Antonio Harmon, and Jaden Walley make it out onto the field in the rotation.
Up front, MSU’s offensive line has Cole Smith at Center with Nick Jones and Steven Losoya at guards. Rounding out the offensive line is Kwatrivous Johnson and Kameron Jones. So far this year, this group has struggled and has allowed 14 sacks on the season.
Mississippi State football depth chart: How will Bulldogs fare up front on defense?
While the Mississippi State Bulldogs had to find a number of different starters after losing key contributors a season ago, the Miss. State football team’s defense has very clearly struggled at times this season.
On the defensive side of things, linebackers Jett Johnson and Bookie Watson help anchor things and lead this unit. Along with them, Donterry Russell is going to get a start this week after he caused chaos for Alabama last weekend.
The defensive line boasts some notable talent and experience thanks to Deonte Anderson at defensive end, Nathan Pickering lining up at nose guard, and Jaden Crumedy getting set at defensive tackle.
MSU’s secondary features Decamerion Richardson and DeCarlos Nicholson at cornerback and safeties Shawn Preston Jr., Marcus Banks, and Corey Ellington. This group has also had some issues giving up big plays (though getting more of a pass rush might be pretty helpful for this group).
Mississippi State football depth chart: Bulldogs solid on special teams
Onto special teams, where Mississippi State football’s Kyle Ferris has been thriving as he’s nailed seven of his eight field goal attempts so far this season.
Looking elsewhere on special teams for the Bulldogs, Keelan Crimmins has been incredibly reliable punting for the Mississippi State Bulldogs. Meanwhile, the aforementioned Griffin and Thomas take care of returning punts and kicks.
On special teams, placekicker Kyle Ferrie has been reliable, making 7 of 8 field goals this season. Punter Keelan Crimmins averages 42 yards per punt. Griffin and Thomas handle kickoff and punt returns.
