ESPN FPI projects Mississippi State Bulldogs to bounce back vs. Western Michigan
By Ethan Lee
ESPN’s FPI is predicting that Zach Arnett and the Mississippi State football team will get back in the win column when they host Western Michigan.
Saturday afternoon, the Mississippi State Bulldogs will have the perfect opportunity to bounce back after a three consecutive frustrating losses for the Mississippi State football team. After being flattened by the Alabama Crimson Tide last week, the MSU Bulldogs will welcome the Western Michigan Broncos to Davis Wade Stadium at Scott Field in Starkville.
The non-conference matchup gives Mississippi State the perfect thing that it needs after three rough weeks against challenging SEC competition: a chance for a palate cleanser and a win.
While both Western Michigan and Miss. State enter into this game with identical 2-3 records, the Bulldogs should be able to win this one. And hopefully, this is a contest that the Bulldogs are able to win big.
As it stands right now, it looks like ESPN’s FPI believes in Miss. State’s ability to win this one.
Mississippi State football: ESPN FPI gives Bulldogs great shot at beating Western Michigan Broncos after deflating loss to Alabama Crimson Tide
According to the robots and magical math behind ESPN’s FPI, Mississippi State has a very respectably chance of winning this game. The math and numbers and calculators and all that jazz are giving the Bulldogs a 90.7 percent chance of coming out on top of the Broncos.
That’s pretty good!
Prior to the season, MSU was heavily favored in this game by ESPN’s FPI. The preseason projections had the Bulldogs at 93.7 percent, which is also pretty good.
The Bulldogs will need to stay focused and actually compete though. After losing three-straight games, hopefully this team will be angry and ready to play. MSU will need to account for a Western Michigan pass rush that could provide some problems, but the Bulldogs might be able to take advantage of big play opportunities through the air if Will Rogers can stay upright.
