How on earth will Mississippi State football’s defense fare against stiff SEC competition?

Zach Arnett was a really good defensive coordinator for the Bulldogs. But the Bulldogs lost some really important pieces on the defensive side of the ball. And that was very evident over the past couple weeks for the Mississippi State football team.

It was certainly evident against the South Carolina Gamecocks.

South Carolina very efficient racked up 288 passing yards and then also managed to gain 144 rushing yards against the Bulldogs. The Gamecocks were able to march down the field with relative ease and managed to sustain lengthy drives and also found ways to quickly score thanks to explosive plays.

It was just a flat out bad outing for the Mississippi State defense. And Zach Arnett has to be having all sorts of thoughts about what to do with that side of the ball. Because it has major issues right now.

This loss is painful for the Bulldogs and unfortunately things don’t get any easier any time soon. It’s critical that Miss. State learns from these mistakes sooner rather than later. The Bulldogs must correct some significant issues on both sides of the ball.

Because Alabama is about to come to Starkville. And that won’t be fun.
