Mississippi State football fans aren’t thrilled after the MSU Bulldogs suffered an aggravating road loss to the South Carolina Gamecocks Saturday evening.

For the second week in a row, Zach Arnett and the Mississippi State football team suffered a loss against an SEC foe in a rather uniquely infuriating way. The Bulldogs fall to 2-2 on the season and 0-2 in SEC play after losing to the South Carolina Gamecocks.

And of course, Mississippi State football fans are less than amused with the way MSU lost.

The Bulldogs showed flashes of life and potential on offense as Will Rogers and Lideatrick “Tulu” Griffin connected on several different occasions. The Bulldogs learned how to throw the ball again and they were able to move downfield fairly consistently.

But the Bulldogs’ defense (and the offensive line) really let MSU as a whole down. Now State is winless in SEC play and has to come home to face the Alabama Crimson Tide.

That’s sure to be a blast.

Yeah, this one was something. There were reasons to get hopes up and then there were just messy mistakes all over the place.

This is a great question! What on earth has happened to Mississippi State’s defense?

The Bulldogs lost seven starters from last season and absolutely lack a consistent pass rush without having to show all sorts of blitzes on a routine basis. Plus the secondary was pretty much overhauled. It’s a mess and we’re seeing the results of the roster turnover that folks just assumed would be fine.

State’s defense had a lot of question entering this season. While there were very legitimate concerns about the defense, seemingly just acted as if replacing a ton of experience and production would be a breeze because MSU was replacing key players with juniors and seniors.

But sometimes it’s worth asking questions and being concerned.

It felt like a Big 12 game at times. And the Big 12 is fun. This MSU team might have a lot of fun in the chaotic Big 12.
