Jeffery Pittman, a newcomer for the Mississippi State football team, saved the Bulldogs with a huge play in overtime on Saturday.
When the Mississippi State football team was tested by the Arizona Wildcats, the Bulldogs found a way to get a win. Saturday evening, Zach Arnett and the Miss. State Bulldogs were taken into overtime by the Wildcats.
But one key newcomer helped MSU overcome the Wildcats and get a much needed 31-24 home win.
Over the offseason, the Mississippi State football team brought in several tight ends to help adjust to their new offense. But something that got a little less attention is the way the Bulldogs added to their running back room.
And Jeffery Pittman is very clearly an instrumental figure in that running back room. His performance in overtime with this key play was a huge reason for the Bulldogs’ win against. Arizona.

With two backs alongside him in the backfield, Will Rogers took the snap, faked a look towards Woody Marks, and was able to allow a screen to develop around Pittman. A quick toss to Pittman set the running back up around the line of scrimmage with a couple blockers from the offensive line.
But an Arizona tackler broke through the blockers and almost ended the play right at the line of scrimmage. Thankfully, Pittman is a pretty impressive athlete and was able to break the tackle.
He then burst down field, ran right at the end zone, and dove right in. Perfect play that set Mississippi State up to get a nice win. And it was a great example of resiliency from Pittman and the Bulldogs.
