Watch: Miss. State’s Bookie Watson snags pick against Arizona Wildcats
By Ethan Lee
The second game of the 2023 Mississippi State football season has already featured several big and bizarre plays, including this lovely pick by Bookie Watson.
Interceptions are awesome. Just an absolute joy to watch. As long as the other team is throwing them, they’re a perfect part of college football. And that includes picks picked off off of tips from random teammates.
Mississippi State football fans got to witness one such example of tip drill interception fun Saturday evening as Bookie Watson snagged a pick that gave the Bulldogs some incredible momentum early on.
As the Arizona Wildcats were attempting to move the ball down the field in the first quarter, Jayden de Laura got a little careless with a pass under pressure. And while he had a pass rusher in his face, de Laura launched an absolute missile of a pass right into the midst of Mississippi State coverage.
The ball bounced right off one defender and into Bookie Watson’s hands, giving the Bulldogs’ linebacker a great opportunity to cause some chaos.
Just take a look at this picked off pass because it’s absolutely amazing:

I say a lot of things are art, but this is art.
And it was perfect. This pick set up a beautiful, quick, and certainly very efficient touchdown drive for the Bulldogs.
Roughly 50 yards away from the end zone, the Bulldogs’ offense took over. Will Rogers handed the ball off to Woody Marks who carried the ball 21 yards. And then another carry from Marks. And then another.
After that third run by Marks, Rogers connected with Tulu Griffin. A 23-yard touchdown reception from Griffin and the Bulldogs jumped to a 7-0 lead over the Wildcats.
And it was all thanks to Watson’s pick. Pretty good way to get a game started, if you ask me.
