A familiar face will be present for the 2023 Egg Bowl as former Mississippi State football coach Dan Mullen shows up to call the game.

The 2023 Egg Bowl is going to feature a rather familiar face for Mississippi State football fans. Former Mississippi State Bulldogs head coach Dan Mullen will be making his return to Starkville, Mississippi and a rivalry he once took part in as he helps call the game from the booth.

On a show with Stingray (another familiar face for both Mississippi State football fans and Ole Miss football fans), Mullen announced that he’s going to be heading out to Thursday night games all throughout the 2023 college football season.

And during that announcement, the former Bulldogs head coach made it clear that he’s going to be back in Starkville for the Egg Bowl.

This will be absolutely FASCINATING.

This is going to be a must watch sort of Egg Bowl occasion. Last time Mullen was officially affiliated with a Mississippi State Bulldogs game was when he led the Florida Gators to beat an underachieving MSU Bulldogs team led by Joe Moorhead in 2018.

And there are a lot of Miss. State football fans who aren’t too thrilled with that or the process that led to Mullen leading Florida.

In Mullen’s last Egg Bowl, the Bulldogs performed in underwhelming fashion and fell short after Nick Fitzgerald was injured. The Ole Miss Rebels beat Mullen and his final Bulldogs team and then Mullen left for the Gators shortly thereafter.

The whole deal was frustrating and deflating. Especially after Mullen did so much to help build and establish the Bulldogs during the nine years he spent elevating the program.

But now Mullen is back! And now that he’s a very clearly totally neutral party. He definitely never said anything that made Ole Miss fans mad at any point ever. There’s no way that anyone will be mad about this broadcast crew calling the game.

It’s going to be art. I can’t wait.
