Chris Jans and the Mississippi State men’s basketball team will head east for a match up against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets during the inaugural ACC/SEC challenge this season.
The second season of Chris Jans’ tenure as the head coach of the Mississippi State men’s basketball team will feature a trip to Atlanta, Georgia during the 2023-2024 season.
Why?
Well, the Bulldogs are slated to meet up with the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets as part of the inaugural ACC/SEC Challenge.
That’s right, Mississippi State gets the opportunity to go east and face off against a former SEC member during this coming season. And it’s a great chance for Jans and the Bulldogs to get a nice, solid road victory this year over a program who is looking to bounce back after some less-than-ideal results as of late.
2023-2024 Mississippi State men’s basketball schedule: Bulldogs to face Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets during ACC/SEC challenge
Georgia Tech is fresh off of a really hard season. The Yellow Jackets only managed to win 15 of their 33 games last year. So, there’s a lot of room for improvement for Georgia Tech, because they haven’t been good lately.
Meanwhile, Mississippi State had a breakthrough during Jans’ first season in Starkville. The Bulldogs managed to go 21-13 and make it into the NCAA Tournament’s First Four game.
The last time these two teams faced each other came back in the 1970’s (so, it’s been a while) and many of the meetings between the two teams happened when Georgia Tech was still a member of the SEC.
That said, as Matt Dunaway notes in MSU’s official press release, Georgia Tech and Mississippi State have only met a total of 29 times.
Given the roster that the Bulldogs have and the way that Jans has worked to get this program going in the right direction, this should be an exciting opportunity for the Bulldogs on the road.
