No. 1: Mississippi State football vs. Southeastern Louisiana

And here is what should be the easiest game of the season for Zach Arnett and the Mississippi State football program.

The season opener against the Southeastern Louisiana Lions should provide the Mississippi State Bulldogs with the perfect opportunity to get a crowd-pleasing win and provide plenty of excitement for MSU as State enters the first full season under Arnett’s leadership.

The gulf of talent that exists between these two programs is notable and it’s not likely something that the Lions can overcome with ease or simple game planning. There’s a big difference with the program and, as long as MSU avoids a catastrophic failure, this should be a pretty straightforward win over an FCS team.

All of that said, it is worth noting that Southeastern Louisiana was a fairly tough FCS foe a season ago. This program provided an interesting challenge to Louisiana-Lafayette, ended up beating the remarkably impressive Incarnate Word Cardinals, and shouldn’t just simply be overlooked.

But if the Bulldogs play to their potential, avoid making costly mistakes, and can play focused football, Arnett and company should start the season with a win.
