The Mississippi State baseball team was defeated by the Tennessee Volunteers in the second game of this weekend’s SEC series.
The Diamond Dawgs lost tonight’s matchup by a score of 12-8.
Tonight’s game was played at Lindsey Nelson Stadium in Knoxville, Tennessee.
Here are my early post-game thoughts:
Mississippi State Baseball will not win big games unless they figure out their pitching staff.
You can’t give up 20 runs in the first two games of an SEC series and expect to win ballgames.
There is something wrong with Mississippi State’s pitching staff, and until it gets fixed, Mississippi State Baseball won’t be in the position to make it far in the postseason, much less win big games.
Scott Foxhall has to be concerned with what he’s seen this season.
Batting does not seem to be the issue.
This has sort of been the story all season long, but Mississippi State’s bats have seemed to produce even in big moments.
Their bats have actually kept them in games they were never supposed to be in the first place.
I can’t help but wonder how good this team would be if they had some solid pitchers.
It would still be important for the Mississippi State Baseball team to take one game from Tennessee tomorrow.
It is not fun knowing you have lost a series going into Sunday’s game, but it will still be important for Mississippi State to show up and grab a game from the Tennessee Volunteers.
Not only does winning tomorrow help your conference record grow, but it gives the Mississippi State Baseball team a huge momentum boost going into May with only three SEC series remaining.
The Mississippi State Baseball team will take on the Tennesse Volunteers in game three of this weekend’s series starting Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. CT/2:00 p.m. ET.
