Do you want the short answer or the long answer? Let me give you the short answer first. If the Mississippi State basketball team defeats the South Carolina Gamecocks tonight, the Mississippi State Bulldogs will (more than likely) go to the NCAA Tournament and compete for a national championship.
The long answer is not much different, but let’s dive into it.
The Mississippi State basketball team has two games left on their schedule. The Bulldogs take on the South Carolina Gamecocks tonight, and they turn around on Saturday to travel to Nashville, Tennessee to take on the Vanderbilt Commodores.
What happens if the Bulldogs just win tonight’s game but lose to the Vanderbilt Commodores?
You can never guarantee that a team that does not win their conference tournament will be in the Big Dance, but I think the Bulldogs are in even if they just win tonight’s SEC basketball matchup vs. the South Carolina Gamecocks.

Losing to the South Carolina Gamecocks will be brutal for the Mississippi State basketball team, but I still think they have a good shot at making the tournament if they go on the road and defeat the Vanderbilt Commodores. The Bulldogs might need a few wins in the SEC tournament to secure a spot in the NCAA Tournament.

I do not think the Mississippi State basketball team will make it to the Big Dance if they go 0-2 in these last two SEC games. The Bulldogs would need to win the SEC tournament.

Automatic. The Mississippi State basketball team will go to the 2023 NCAA Tournament if they win these last two games. Again, nothing is guaranteed, but it is very likely you see maroon and white in the Big Dance if the Bulldogs go 2-0 this week.
