The Mississippi State football team will play the Illinois Fighting Illini in the ReliaQuest Bowl today, January 2nd at 11:00 a.m. CT/12:00 p.m. ET. The Mississippi State Bulldogs will be playing one final game of the 2022 college football season for their pirate, Mike Leach.

It is only fitting that Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida has a pirate ship that overlooks the football field. Today, Mike Leach’s picture will be featured on that pirate ship to honor the passing of former Mississippi State football head coach, Michael Charles Leach.

The Mississippi State football Twitter account also released some exciting news this morning that the Bulldogs would be wearing uniforms to honor Mike Leach.

Everyone around the college football world knew that Mississippi State would do something with their uniforms to honor Leach. Here are the helmets for today’s game:

In bowl games, you never really know how your team will match up vs. their opponent. Today is no different as both teams enter today’s ReliaQuest Bowl 8-4 and look to close out the 2022 college football season with nine wins.

The Mississippi State Bulldogs finished the season 8-4 with wins over the Memphis Tigers, Arizona Wildcats, Bowling Green Falcons, Texas A&M Aggies, Arkansas Razorbacks, Auburn Tigers, East Tennessee State Buccanneers, and Ole Miss Rebels. The Bulldogs’ four losses were vs. the LSU Tigers, Kentucky Wildcats, Alabama Crimson Tide, and Georgia Bulldogs.

The Illinois Fighting Illini also finished the year 8-4. The Fighting Illini found their wins vs. the Wyoming Cowboys, Virginia Cavaliers, Chattanooga Mocs, Wisconsin Badgers, Iowa Hawkeyes, Minnesota Golden Gophers, Nebraska Cornhuskers, and Northwestern Wildcats. Their losses were vs. the Indiana Hoosiers, Michigan State Spartans, Purdue Boilermakers, and Michigan Wolverines.
