The Mississippi State basketball team was on the road in Jackson, Mississippi this Wednesday night to face off against the Jackson State Tigers. The Bulldogs defeated the Tigers, 69-59.

Here are my early post-game thoughts:

Mississippi State Basketball will lose a game due to dry shooting.

I have used this post-game thought before, but it is true. I am not sure the 2022-2023 Mississippi State basketball team will be able to win big games whenever they are having a dry shooting night. All that to say, Chris Jans and this team continue to prove me wrong for ten straight games. 10-0 is a big deal with two games remaining before SEC play begins.

DJ Jefferies is going to win ballgames for the Bulldogs

DJ Jefferies led the team in scoring this game with 15 points, 3 assists, and 5 rebounds. I do not think Jefferies will always be the leading scorer when Tolu Smith is having a good night, but he is the type of player that can win you ballgames in the final minutes of a tight SEC game in the future. I really like what I have seen in DJ Jefferies thus far, and I expect him to grow as a leader, even more, this year.

This team is 10-0. That is special.

I know this game vs. the Jackson State Tigers was not the prettiest Mississippi State basketball game you have ever watched, but they won. I can remember several Mississippi State basketball teams that would have lost this game, but this team will not go down without fighting for a win.

Chris Jans has this team ready for every single game. Sure, we have watched some dry spells offensively, but boy do these guys play hard. The one thing missing from Bulldog basketball has been fighting and finishing, and this 2022-2023 has just that.
