All in all, the Mississippi State Bulldogs did exactly what we thought they would do, and then some. The Egg Bowl win is the “and then some,” that many people did not think the Mississippi State Bulldogs could pull off. The Bulldogs defeated the Rebels, 24-22, in this year’s Battle for the Golden Egg.
The Mississippi State Bulldogs only lost one game all season against the No. 1 team in the nation, the Georgia Bulldogs. Mississippi State also brought the Golden Egg back to Starkville, Mississippi by finishing the regular season with an Egg Bowl victory. This was Mike Leach’s first egg bowl victory in his tenure at Mississippi State.
The Mississippi State Bulldogs finished the 2022 college football regular season with an 8-4 record with wins over the Memphis Tigers, the Arizona Wildcats, the Bowling Green Falcons, the Texas A&M Aggies, the Arkansas Razorbacks, the Auburn Tigers, the East Tennessee State Buccaneers, and the Ole Miss Rebels.
The four losses that were handed to the Mississippi State Bulldogs came from the LSU Tigers (SEC West champions), Kentucky Wildcats (certainly should have won this one), Alabama Crimson Tide (did you really expect to win at Bryant-Denny Stadium?), and the Georgia Bulldogs (the No. 1 team in the nation and defending national champions).
