Mississippi State football fans are still experiencing the high of winning this year’s Battle for the Golden Egg. The Mississippi State Bulldogs defeated the Ole Miss Rebels 24-22 in one of the most dramatic games in the history of Egg Bowls.

Sidenote: If you have any Ole Miss friends, please reach out to them as they seem to be struggling a bit with this year’s loss.

The Mississippi State Bulldogs finished the 2022 college football regular season with an 8-4 record with wins over the Memphis Tigers, the Arizona Wildcats, the Bowling Green Falcons, the Texas A&M Aggies, the Arkansas Razorbacks, the Auburn Tigers, the East Tennessee State Buccaneers, and the Ole Miss Rebels.

The four losses that were handed to the Mississippi State Bulldogs came from the LSU Tigers (SEC West champions), Kentucky Wildcats (certainly should have won this one), Alabama Crimson Tide (did you really expect to win at Bryant-Denny Stadium?), and the Georgia Bulldogs (the No. 1 team in the nation and defending national champions).

That 8-4 record is what many analysts had Mississippi State finishing at, including myself. Should the Bulldogs have beaten Kentucky? Yes, that is the one game that I am most disappointed about. The LSU game we knew would be difficult due to playing at Death Valley, but we still look back at that game and wonder what would have happened if Austin Williams hadn’t muffed the punt.

This team has the potential to do something special in the year 2023. The 2023 schedule looks easier than this year’s schedule, and the toughest games the Bulldogs will play will be played at Davis Wade Stadium. Look out, Bulldog fans.

So, why not relive those moments of chaos? In this week’s episode of Cowbell Off Campus, Landon Young and Addison Thigpen discuss every drive from the Mississippi State Bulldogs and the Ole Miss Rebels.
