Mississippi State football fans… Egg Bowl week is here.

The most electric, exciting, toxic week of the year for Bulldog and Rebel fans begins now. If you are a part of it, you gotta love it. It brings up feelings that you haven’t felt during the regular season. Playing Ole Miss is not the same as playing LSU, Texas A&M, or Arkansas. This week means more. The Egg Bowl trophy means more than a regular season SEC win.

Here are a few Egg Bowl notes before we kick off Thanksgiving night:

Yes, Mississippi State and Ole Miss truly hate each other.

… and the fans love it. It’s true. As a Mississippi State fan, I love this week. Of course, it brings out the nerves too, but it is exhilarating. From fans smack-talking on Twitter to divided families during a holiday, this game brings out the worst in people… in the best way.

The teams also hate each other. Just watch on Thursday or remember this from 2018’s Egg Bowl?

The Conerly Trophy award is typically decided by who wins the Egg Bowl.

The Conerly Trophy award is given to the best player in the state of Mississippi. Emmanuel Forbes is the Mississippi State candidate for this year’s Conerly Trophy. Quinshon Judkins is the candidate from Ole Miss. I’m sure both fanbases expect their candidate to have a big game on Thursday and whoever does might just find themselves holding the Conerly trophy.

This might be Lane Kiffin’s last Egg Bowl.

All the rumors have many people thinking this year’s Egg Bowl could be the last for Ole Miss head coach, Lane Kiffin. Many believe Kiffin has been offered the Auburn football job and will accept sometime after the regular season comes to a close. Who knows?… maybe John Cohen.

Mississippi State can finish 8-4 with a win.

A win for the Bulldogs on Thursday would put Mississippi State and Ole Miss finishing with the same regular season record. The offseason momentum would be at an all-time high for Mike Leach if he can win on Thursday and win this year’s bowl game.

This will be the 119th meeting between Mississippi State and Ole Miss.

The first-ever meeting goes all the way back to the year 1901 when Mississippi State defeated Ole Miss 17-0. The meetings in between 1901 and 2022 have created a history that will last forever. Maybe this year’s Egg Bowl will be added to the history books.
