Mississippi State football is entering the last week of the 2022 regular college football season. Mississippi State’s record up to this point in the season is 7-4. The Mississippi State Bulldogs will face the Ole Miss Rebels in Thursday night’s Egg Bowl for a chance to finish the regular season with eight wins.

Thoughts about the 2022 Mississippi State football team can change weekly, just ask Brian Hadad from Thunder and Lightning. Here is the report card for the Mississippi State Bulldogs through the first twelve weeks of college football:

Offense – B-

Unfortunately, all four of Mississippi State’s losses can be blamed on the offense. I believe this is what has most Mississippi State fans frustrated with Mike Leach. Leach was hired to put 40 points on the board every game, and if we were losing 52-49, maybe fans wouldn’t be quite as upset. That’s not how the Bulldogs have been losing games this season. Check out these scores during all four losses: 31-16, 27-17, 30-6, and 45-19. The Bulldog offense has not surpassed 20 points in a loss this season.

Defense – A

I cannot blame a single loss this season on the Mississippi State football defense. The only game I can point to where the defense didn’t play as an A+ defense is the Kentucky game when they gave up 200 yards rushing to Chris Rodriguez and the Kentucky offense. Again, even that game cannot be blamed on the defense as the offense only put up 10 points, and the defense even had a touchdown that game.

Special Teams – C+

Considering I can’t remember a game this season where we haven’t had a special teams mistake, the Bulldogs cannot rank above a C. I can’t go below a C because of how great our return team is this 2022 football season. A lot of credit must be given to Tulu Griffin and Zavion Thomas for how the Mississippi State special teams have developed this season.
