Mississippi State Lady Bulldogs: Sam Purcell era begins tonight

The Mississippi State women’s basketball team tips off the 2022-2023 season tonight at 7:00 p.m. New head coach, Sam Purcell is set to begin his tenure here at Mississippi State University. The Lady Bulldogs will face off against the Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils. Tonight’s game will be played in Starkville, Mississippi at the Humphrey Coliseum.

Mississippi State women’s basketball has its own history of producing the best of the best teams, but since the departure of former head coach, Vic Schaefer, they have struggled. With the new hire of Sam Purcell, Lady Bulldog fans are expectant this season. The Lady Bulldogs might not be headed to the NCAA final four, but fans expect more out of Sam Purcell.

Last year, the Mississippi State women’s basketball team finished 11th in the SEC standings with an overall record of 15-14. The Lady Bulldogs were 6-10 in the southeastern conference and look to improve both of those records this 2022-2023 season. Last season, the Lady Bulldogs were  11-5 at home, but on the road, the Lady Bulldogs finished 3-7. Sam Purcell has stepped in to really turn things around and get back to the championship caliber of basketball that Mississippi State women’s basketball used to be.
