The Mississippi State Bulldogs lost to the Alabama Crimson Tide, 30-6. The Mississippi State football team is now 5-3 (2-3) on the season and is headed into a bye week next week. The Bulldogs could not seem to get things going on Saturday night vs. the Crimson Tide.
Here are my early post-game thoughts.
Mississippi State football’s defense played well enough to be in the game.
Zach Arnett’s defense kept Mississippi State in the game vs. the Alabama Crimson Tide. If the offense had put points on the board early on, there’s a great chance that these early post-game thoughts would be different.
Wide receivers must catch 50/50 balls to win big games.
4th and short, the second drive of the game, Jaden Walley drops the ball in the red zone. This play killed momentum and proved that we can’t stay in a big game. This was the first of MANY balls that the Bulldogs’ wide receivers dropped on Saturday night.
Mississippi State football had their chances early.
As mentioned above, there were several opportunities for the Bulldogs to stay in the game. Mississippi State’s chances started early. On the first drive of the game, Woody Marks had a chance to fight for one more yard and get the first down but came up short.
Will Rogers could be a winner next year.
This loss cannot be blamed on Will Rogers. Rogers put footballs exactly where they needed to be on Saturday night in Tuscaloosa, but wide receivers could not come up with the catch. The 2023 Mississippi State football team returns a ton of talent that could make a difference next year. The 2023 schedule seems to favor the Bulldogs with home games and winnable road games.
Mississippi State football leaves Tuscaloosa, yet again, without a touchdown… WAIT WE SCORED
I was typing this as Woody Marks ran into the endzone, but THANK GOD! We scored in Tuscaloosa, Alabama for the first time since 2014.
