Mississippi State Football: Is Mike Leach Leaving Us for Texas A&M?
By Landon Young
The 2022 Mississippi State football team is now 4-1 after defeating the Texas A&M Aggies on Saturday, 42-24. The Bulldogs looked clean in all aspects of the game (maybe besides penalties), but the Aggies looked pretty horrific. On Twitter, the finger-pointing started early after the Aggies’ loss. The first finger pointed to head coach, Jimbo Fisher.
On Monday afternoon, the Texas A&M message boards began to blow up. The Aggie faithful want Jimbo Fisher out, but there is one tiny (or mega) problem. Fisher’s buyout would be 95 million dollars. *coughs* That’s a lot of money. *coughs* I’m not sure they want him out during the season, but fans are already pushing for him to be fired at the end of the 2022 season.
Athletic director Ross Bjork will have some decisions to make following the end of the 2022 college football season. Depending on what happens the rest of the season, Jimbo Fisher hopes to make it until the end of the college football season. Through the first five weeks of college football, there have been five college football coaches have been fired:
Scott Frost (Nebraska Huskers)
I’m not sure many were surprised by this one. I anticipated this one after the Huskers’ first loss to Northwestern in Ireland.
Herm Edwards (Arizona State Sun Devils)
Referring to the tweet below, it looked as if Edwards was nearly fired off the field after the Sun Devils lost to Eastern Michigan.
Geoff Collins (Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets) – Mississippi State defensive coordinators never make it as head coaches. Looking at you Zach Arnett.
You won’t make it Zach Arnett. Just stay put. Don’t leave. Please. I’m not above begging.
Karl Dorrell (Colorado Buffaloes)
Colorado fired its head coach, Karl Dorrell after losing to the Arizona Wildcats. Hey! We beat them… Wait if you’re a Texas A&M booster or staff member, don’t read that. Stop it.
Paul Chryst (Wisconsin Badgers)
This one shocked me the most. Paul Chryst had a pretty good record during his tenure as the Badgers’ head coach. He was 67-26. C’mon Wisconsin. Do better. Plus they lost to one of the best blogs across the internet, Writing Illini.
Who will be next? Well, if it is Jimbo Fisher, Mike Leach seems to already on be on the Aggies’ radar. Leach’s career took off whenever he was a head coach in Lubbock, Texas at Texas Tech University. I expect Aggie fans are assuming because of his Texas past, he would be interested. Don’t get me wrong, Texas A&M can fork up the money, but I think A&M fans may be getting ahead of themselves just a tad.
