Mississippi State Football: 5 players to watch vs LSU
By Landon Young
The 2022 Mississippi State football team is headed to Baton Rouge, Louisiana to face off against their first SEC opponent of the season, the LSU Tigers. Who does Mississippi State need to make big plays on Saturday? I think these are the guys who have the potential to show up in a big moment.
Will Rogers (Quarterback)
I know I know… Too easy of an answer, but he does touch the ball more than anyone else on the field. I predict Will Rogers to throw the ball more than 50 times vs. the LSU Tigers. In his last two games, he’s played pretty clean games. If Rogers can go into Death Valley and not make many mistakes, the Bulldogs have a shot at winning in Tiger Stadium for the third time in eight years.
Dillon Johnson (Running Back)
Yes, I placed a running back on this list. Dillon Johnson has the potential to keep the LSU defense guessing all game long. If Johnson can break off on a few 10-15 yard carries, the entire field will begin to open up for Will Rogers and company.
Tyrus Wheat (Linebacker)
I imagine the Bulldogs’ defensive coordinator, Zach Arnett, will place Tyrus Wheat on Jayden Daniels all night. Daniels has proven to be quick on his feet, but so has Tyrus Wheat. If Wheat can contain Daniels on Saturday, I think he gives the Bulldogs a great chance to win this football game.
Caleb Ducking (Wide Receiver)
Quack quack quack! I think Caleb Ducking is quickly turning into America’s favorite wide receiver due to his touchdown victory dance. After transferring to Mississippi State, he has already proven to be one of Rogers’ favorite targets. I expect Ducking to have 5+ receptions vs. the Tigers on Saturday night. If he can make 2 of those 5+ receptions touchdowns, I believe we’ll be talking about Ducking in MSU history books.
Emmanuel Forbes (Cornerback)
This is the guy who could be remembered for why we won in Death Valley in 2022. Jayden Daniels is going to slip up and when he does, Emmanuel Forbes and the Mississippi State defense has to take advantage of it. Prediction: Forbes has 2 interceptions, one in a big moment, and one as time expires.
