On the opening weekend of Mississippi State football, the Mississippi State Bulldogs played the Memphis Tigers this past weekend, and the Bulldogs won in a convincing fashion. The Bulldogs put up 450 passing yards on the Memphis defense, and Will Rogers finished with 5 touchdowns. Oddly enough, the offense ran the ball 34 times (the second most Mike Leach has ever run the ball). Check out more thoughts on week one HERE.

The Bulldogs hope to carry over that type of offensive production into this Saturday’s game vs. the Arizona Wildcats. Mississippi State will be traveling to Arizona for a 10:00 p.m. CT kickoff on Saturday. Arizona finished the 2021 season 1-11, but they seem to have already made some significant changes in 2022.

The Arizona Wildcats are one of those teams that needed to hit the transfer portal hard. Among schools that hit the transfer portal, Arizona ranks #28 according to 247sports.com. The Wildcat offense looks to have several new players that were not on the field last year including their starting quarterback who transferred from Washington State University (Mike Leach’s former head coaching position).

Arizona has already matched its win total in week one of the 2022 college football season. The Wildcats handled San Diego State University by a score of 38-20. Arizona’s starting quarterback, Jayden de Laura, passed for 299 yards and 4 touchdowns vs. the San Diego State Aztecs. Many Arizona fans seem to think that the Wildcats should have no issue moving the ball down the field on the Mississippi State defense. Jett Johnson and Tyrus Wheat might have something to say about that come Saturday at 10:00 p.m.

In this week’s episode of ‘Cowbell Off Campus,’ Landon Young and Addison Thigpen discuss what went right and what went wrong in last week’s game vs. the Memphis Tigers. They then turn their attention to the Arizona Wildcats and look at what Mississippi State needs to do to win a strange 10:00 p.m. kickoff game.
