After a fantastic opening weekend of college football, my wife and I headed off to bed and she posed this question, “How would you rank the games that you watched this weekend?” First off, find yourself a wife that asks you questions like this. Second off, here’s what I would say.

Florida State vs. LSU

I loved having college football to watch on a Sunday night and boy what a game. I’ll be honest with you, I only ranked this game #1 due to the last seven minutes of the game. Before the craziness, it was a boring game between two sub-par teams. From Malik Nabers muffling a second punt to FSU fumbling on the two-yard line to LSU scoring with one second on the clock to missing the extra point to send it into overtime, it was truly an epic night.

Mississippi State vs. Memphis

I had fun watching our Mississippi State Bulldogs play on Saturday night. There have been plenty of times when I have been to an opening game, and I did not leave the way I left on Saturday. This 2022 Mississippi State team looks good, and that’s the reason it’s ranked so high on this list.

Florida vs. Utah

Wow. Also, a thriller game. I knew the Swamp would be rocking with it being Billy Napier’s first game as the Florida head coach, and it was. Utah drove down the field on the final possession of the game and threw an interception in the end zone with 30 seconds remaining in the game. AJ Richardson looked calm even when he was pressured out of the pocket. This could be a really good Gator team. Scott Stricklin, you my friend look like a genius.

North Carolina State vs. East Carolina

HA! This 11:00 a.m. kick-off gave me everything I was asking for from college football opening weekend. As I was ordering pizza to prepare for the UGA/Oregon game, I realized there was no way I could change the channel from NC State & ECU. East Carolina kicker you are not alone. Call my friends over in Baton Rouge.

North Carolina vs. Appalachian State

Again, these 11:00 a.m. games are getting crazier and crazier. I had two TV’s going in the living room, one with NC State/ECU and one with this game. North Carolina simply couldn’t put the game away fast enough. App State had chance after chance… The first two-point conversion would haunt me for ages if I was an App State fan. Also, App State goes to College Station, TX to face off against the Aggies who did not look sharp this weekend.

Let me know what your top games were from this weekend in the comment section below.
