Mississippi State Football: Seven Questions For Commodore

Mississippi State Football has a matchup with the Vanderbilt Commodores for Homecoming today. Robbie Weinstein of Vandy 247. He took the time to answer questions about today’s football game.

Also, it has been reported that true freshman Will Rogers will get the first start of his career today. Could he have a big game in front of the homecoming crowd? Mississippi State sure needs him to.

M&WNation: Which Mississippi State Quarterback is Vanderbilt Preparing to Face, Costello, or Rogers?

Robbie: I’m sure that Vanderbilt is preparing for both Costello and Rogers. If they’re preparing for one more than the other, I’m sure they’ll hide that from everyone so that Mississippi State doesn’t know.

M&WNation: Which Wideout Will give The Commodore Secondary the Most Problems?

Robbie: Not really sure. It probably depends on who is matched up with whom. Jaylen Mahoney is Vanderbilt’s best corner and plays in the slot, so whoever Mississippi State ends up putting outside will have the best chance to have big games.

M&WNation: Do you expect Leach to Run the Ball more Against the Vandy Defense?

Robbie: I honestly don’t. Vanderbilt’s pass defense has been a bigger weakness than its run defense, in my opinion, so Leach might as well stick with his team’s strength against Vandy’s weakness.

M&WNation: Can Vandy run the ball against the #2 Ranked Defense in The SEC?

Robbie: I honestly don’t. Vanderbilt’s pass defense has been a bigger weakness than its run defense, in my opinion, so Leach might as well stick with his team’s strength against Vandy’s weakness.

M&WNation: Are you Concerned About the Bulldog Pass Rush?

Robbie: Definitely. Vanderbilt’s offensive line is very inexperienced and has been OK in the run game. But they have really struggled in pass protection. They were better last week there, but MSU has a chance to get after the quarterback.

M&WNation: The Young Bulldog Secondary only allows 212 Yards through the air. Will Vandy attempt to throw it deep against the Bulldogs?

Robbie: I’m sure Vanderbilt wants to go deep if possible; they’ve talked about wanting more explosive plays. But they don’t have a lot of speed at wide receiver, and the O-line struggles to protect for very long. So I doubt they get a lot of chances to throw it deep.

M&WNation: Will the Bulldogs Cover the Spread Against Vandy, and who is your pick to win the game?

Robbie: I’ll take Mississippi State 31-14, so they don’t cover. I think it could be close, but I need to see Vanderbilt play a competitive game before picking them to come within 10 points of an SEC team. They have been blown out in every game since the opener, which was well over a month ago.
