Vic Schaefer and the No. 6 Mississippi State basketball team barely broke a sweat taking down the Virginia Cavaliers and winning by 28 points on the road.

The Bulldogs look dominant even away from Starkville, Mississippi. Vic Schaefer took the No. 6 Mississippi State basketball team to Charlottesville, Virginia to give the Bulldogs a road test and MSU had no real issue winning tonight. Mississippi State was clearly the better team on the court when facing the Virginia Cavaliers this evening.

MSU won 72-44 in Virginia’s home.

The Bulldogs were pretty good collectively on offense with three players scoring in the double digits. Chloe Bibby and Andra Espinoza-Hunter set the pace for MSU with 13 points each and Teaira McCowan was just behind them with 12 points. In the second game of the season, McCowan had her second double-double with 12 rebounds to go with those 12 points.

As a whole, the shooting could have been better for Mississippi State. MSU only hit 43.9 percent of its shots all evening and hit a meager 30.4 percent of its shots from behind the three point line.

But, MSU’s strength and point of emphasis is on defense and the Bulldogs certainly kept the Cavaliers quiet all night. Mississippi State blocked 8 shots and stole the ball 12 times while also scoring 26 points off of turnovers.

It looks like Vic Schaefer’s Mississippi State basketball team might have seriously become a machine that just flattens opponents with ease. It’s chewed through the first two teams this season just as it processed foes a year ago.

Here’s to hoping that this group continues to improve and continues to crush its foes. Maybe the Bulldogs could travel all the way back to the Final Four for a third straight season? If MSU can play like this against even the best teams in the SEC, there’s no real reason to doubt the Bulldogs.
