Ben Howland and his No. 18 Mississippi State Bulldogs are ready to get their share of the Mississippi State basketball season started by hosting Austin Peay this evening.

It’s time for the patience that Mississippi State basketball fans have given Ben Howland to be rewarded. It’s time for Howland’s rebuilding project of the Mississippi State men’s basketball program to reach its completion. It’s time for the Mississippi State Bulldogs to have plenty of success during the 2018-2019 season on the basketball court.

The Mississippi State men’s basketball season officially starts tonight.

The Bulldogs are getting the season started off on against an opponent that they should be able to crush with ease. There’s little reason to believe that the Austin Peay Governors should be able to keep up with the No. 18 ranked Mississippi State basketball team.

Howland’s team was almost unbeatable at home a season ago as the Bulldogs put up a 19-2 record within the friendly confines of Humphrey Coliseum. Outside of Starkville, though, the Mississippi State basketball team struggled to consistently win.

Tonight, Mississippi State should be able to get its first win of the season and start the 2018-2019 season off with a victory. But, a win tonight really doesn’t do much to define this season. The Bulldogs must be able to end the year on a high note, and it’ll be a long time until the NCAA Tournament selection committee really gets going.

Until then, the Bulldogs must give fans reasons to be excited about this year. MSU has plenty of potential and this season can truly be a special one. MSU just needs to show it.

The season starts tonight as Ben Howland’s team hosts Austin Peay. A win would give the Bulldogs some momentum heading into the MGM Resorts Main Event challenge. The Mississippi State basketball team could really start to impress some folks if they can win out through that.
