If you’re a fan of Mississippi State football looking for cord cutting options, YouTube TV might be a solid option to consider.

The Mississippi State football team won their game against the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns on Saturday night 56-10. I could write a lot about it, but in general, the game played out just like we all thought it would. The Bulldogs were by far the better team and they played like it.

So I thought I would take the time today to give you information you might find more useful. With the prices of satellite and cable television continuing to sky rocket, people are looking for ways to cut the cord. The problem Mississippi State football fans and many other sports loving fans have had is it hasn’t always been easy to watch sports.

Well those times are changing. Many of the cord cutting options have started to add the ESPN family of channels, Fox Sports channels, and the Conference channels. I, like many of you, want to cut down on my DirecTV bill, so I looked at my options.

More from Maroon and White Nation

After looking around, I decided to give YouTube TV a try this weekend when the Bulldogs took on the Ragin’ Cajuns. YouTube TV offers a 7 day free trial before they charge the $40 a month plus tax. So here is what I thought while I watched the Mississippi State football game on Saturday.

Picture Quality

At first, I thought I was going to be really disappointed. The picture started off really pixelated, and it looked like it wasn’t going to be worth keeping. But it seemed to just take a few minutes to settle in and then the picture was as good as anything I had on DirecTV and possibly better. The picture looked great once it buffered its way through.

Lag Time

One of the things that I was most interested in was how much would the YouTube TV broadcast be behind the live Mississippi State Football game. I’m on Twitter for pretty much the entire game, and I wanted to know if I’d see tweets three plays ahead of a streamed broadcast.

I was surprised to see that it wasn’t the case at all. I was also surprised to see it seemed to be about a full play behind at times while others it seemed to be right on the heels of the live action. But if you like to tweet during the game, you should still be able to do so.

Value

I’ve already told you the price is $40 a month. That’s far better than what I pay for DirecTV. YouTube TV has every channel I need not only as a Mississippi State football fan, but as a sports fan in general. Plus, since I live in DeSoto County which is close to Memphis, all of the local channels for the Memphis area are included. If you plan to switch, that might be something you want to check on. Not every local market is currently available.

Overall, I was really pleased. I’m going to take another day or two and make sure I still enjoy it as much as I do now, but it looks like my longstanding relationship with DirecTV is going to come to an end.
