Mississippi State Football vs Texas A&M 2016

The bulk of the 2016 Mississippi State football season was pretty awful. It started off with a loss to South Alabama on a missed field goal and it had a multitude of painful losses in games that the Bulldogs should have won.

But, it’s not like all of the 2016 season was terrible. There were a few bright moments. Mississippi State’s insane upset victory over the No. 4 ranked Texas A&M Aggies is certainly one of those great moments.

When the 4th ranked Aggies showed up in Starkville, everyone expected a blow out. Nobody realistically thought that the Bulldogs could keep up. Instead, Aeris Williams and Nick Fitzgerald put on an incredible performance and ran right through the Aggies’ defense. The Bulldogs went right at A&M and scored 35 points on their way to a 35-28 win.

This win was not only pivotal in salvaging the 2016 season, it helped salvage Mississippi State fans’ confidence in Dan Mullen and the future of the football program. With the way that this season started, everything was thrown into question about how things would play out both this year and the years to follow.

This huge win kept MSU fans engaged with what the Bulldogs could be this season but also showed that Mullen wasn’t done just yet. He was going to lead his team to several more key victories while he was still with them.
