Gary Henderson Saved This Season And Made It Something MSU Fans Can Be Proud Of

Mississippi State baseball fans absolutely have to be grateful that John Cohen brought Gary Henderson to Starkville a couple of years ago. When Henderson arrived at State, it was expected that he’d be an assistant coach on John Cohen’s staff and the Bulldogs would use him as a pitching coach.

That’s not what happened at all.

John Cohen left coaching baseball to become the new athletic director of Mississippi State. From there, Henderson remained as the pitching coach as Andy Cannizaro came in. And when Andy Cannizaro went out, Gary Henderson remained.

As Henderson remained with Mississippi State, he led the Bulldogs to Omaha in a year that everyone counted the Bulldogs out. Only a handful of coaches have ever guided Mississippi State to the College World Series. Henderson is one of them.
