Mississippi State Football Prepares For First Maroon And White Spring Game Under Joe Moorhead

At 3:01 pm on this Saturday, the Mississippi State football team will walk out on to Scott Field for the first time under Joe Moorhead. For the first time since the 2008 football season, Mississippi State football will be coached by someone other than Dan Mullen.

Given who has been selected to lead the Bulldogs into the future, that is a pretty good thing. Moorhead has been an incredibly successful coach throughout his career in several different stops. His schemes turned Penn State’s offense into a juggernaut and, as a head coach, he made Fordham incredibly competitive.

Coach Moorhead will debut his offense in Starkville this Saturday. His team is aiming at making 2018 a season to remember for all the right reasons.

The Bulldogs are built to compete with some of the best teams in the Southeastern Conference. Assuming Moorhead’s offensive scheme is as good as we expect it to be, then Nick Fitzgerald, Aeris Williams, and the rest of Mississippi State’s offense should be finding the end zone fairly often this year.

And that all starts this Saturday

During the Maroon and White game, the Bulldogs are going to play four quarters. But, the clock will be running throughout. The quarters will also be shortened to 12 minutes for each quarter. In the final two minutes of each half, the game clock will operate as it normally does during a game.

The abbreviated game is a pretty smart idea. Reducing the amount of time that the Mississippi State football players are on the field will help prevent any unnecessary injuries. Plus, it allows any MSU fans interested in the baseball game that evening to make their way on over to Dudy Noble Field.

Mississippi State hasn’t released rosters as to how the team will be split this Saturday just yet. But, that should be happening somewhat soon. Once those are released, we will let you know.

Next: Expect Nick Fitzgerald To Set Records In 2018

The Bulldogs are ready to go and fans are ready to watch. 2018 has the possibility of being a great season. If Fitzgerald fully recovers, then Moorhead will have an experienced dual threat quarterback to run his system in the SEC.
