Dontavian Lee and Alec Murphy Give MSU Bigger Running Back Options
Neither Dontavian Lee or Alec Murphy have seen the field much in their time with Mississippi State football. However, both provide the opportunity for Joe Moorhead to be creative with his running backs.
Lee and Murphy are a bit bigger than the rest of their colleagues, Lee comes in at 6-1 and 225 pounds while Murphy is 6-0 and 235 pounds. Both are considerably bigger than some of the other running backs on the roster.
That size could be a solid advantage for Mississippi State. Though it isn’t common to use fullbacks anymore, it could provide advantageous for Mississippi State to utilize the size of Dontavian Lee and Alec Murphy to their advantage.
The duo are larger than many linebackers and can provide solid options when it comes to blocking. On top of that, should the Bulldogs need a goal line package that involves lining up and running directly at the opponents, Lee or Murphy could serve in a role there.
Either as the ball carrier battering through the line or an extra blocker allowing another runner to move on through.
Joe Moorhead and Mississippi State football will have options in 2018. It’ll be interesting to see what he does and how he utilizes all of his players. He’s creative enough to find ways to maneuver around and through defenses. And he’s got a good group of running backs that he can use to do just that.
