Mississippi State Softball Moves Up in Both Major Softball Rankings
Vann Stuedeman and the Mississippi State softball team continue to impress and improve this year. 2018 has yielded a strong start to the year through a rough non-conference slate and Mississippi State has thrived through it all.
The Bulldogs are 21-3 and are currently moving along on a nine game winning streak. That means that Mississippi State has won 87.5% of their games this season and, well, 90% of their last 10 games. MSU is 18-1 at home. And because of that, Mississippi State is now moving up in the rankings.
While previously at No. 23 in the ESPN.com/USA Softball rankings, the Bulldogs made the leap up to No. 20 today. And while the Bulldogs received votes through the first 24 games for the NFCA rankings, MSU claimed its highest spot in the rankings since 2008. At No. 21, Mississippi State looks to continue to climb.
This is the first time since 2015 that Mississippi State has made it into the rankings for both major polls. Mississippi State was fairly successful three years ago, going 38-19 in 2015. If the Bulldogs can have that sort of success, or better, then I’m sure we’ll all be happy.
With its jump to No. 20 in the @USASoftball Collegiate Top 25, Mississippi State is also now ranked in BOTH major polls for the first time since 2015!#HailState🐶 pic.twitter.com/LthKi64LWY

The Bulldogs are getting set for two midweek games this week before SEC play starts this weekend. Tonight at 6:00 pm central time, Mississippi State will play Samford in Birmingham, Alabama. Tomorrow, also at 6:00 pm central, the Bulldogs will play Memphis in Memphis.
This weekend, their Southeastern Conference slate will start against the Missouri Tigers. The Bulldogs will play a three game series up in Columbia and then will return home to host Central Arkansas. MSU’s SEC home opener will be against Georgia next week.
