Lady Bulldogs to host NCAA Tournament Games

Tonight the Lady Bulldogs found out they would host NCAA Tournament games for the first time in program history.

The good news: Mississippi State catches a lucky break by hosting as a 5 seed.

The bad news: they are in UConn’s bracket.

MSU is alongside…..MSU in the Starkville-hosted 1st & 2nd round. That would be Michigan State as the other MSU. The Spartans were unable to host themselves due to a conflicting event in East Lansing. So Mississippi State was the beneficiary….undoubtedly since we were right on the cusp of hosting anyway.

The Lady Bulldogs will face Chattanooga in the first round at 1:30 on Friday. So make plans now to cut out of work early and head to the Hump. You can buy adult tickets for $20 for each game and youth are $10.

Michigan State will play Belmont in the early game (11:00 AM) on Friday. Winners will play Sunday at 1:30.

Now on to the bad news, which is UConn. If the Lady Bulldogs are so fortunate to make it to the Sweet 16 they will almost certainly have to face the mighty Huskies.

The men’s team had a similar road in 1996. As a 5 seed they went on to face 1 seeded UConn in the Sweet 16. They beat the Huskies and eventually made it to the Final Four. But UConn women are a little different story.

They’ve won three straight national titles and five of the last seven. The last time they didn’t make the Final Four was 2007 season. They’ve only lost one game in the last three seasons including this year.

Nevertheless, if you want to win it all UConn will have to lose. First things first: Chattanooga. Good luck, Lady Dawgs!
