The Way I See It – Week Six

facebooktwitterreddit

It is hard to believe we are in week six of the college football season, but oh what a week it is.  The entire world of college football will run through the state of Mississippi and there are championship match-ups around the country.  I must admit, I put my trust in Steve Spurrier and James Franklin last week and they totally dropped the ball.

This week, we have five big and I mean BIG GAMES so lets get right to it.  Buckle your seat belt and enjoy this week.

Last Week: 2-3

Yearly Picks: 18-10

Arizona at No. 2 Oregon

It all begins Thursday night as the 4-0 Cats of Arizona tangle with the undefeated Ducks of Oregon.  Rich Rodriguez has totally rebuilt Arizona into a winner, while Oregon has its sites set on the college football playoff.

Arizona upset the Ducks last year and while Oregon has looked shaky at times this year, expect them to be running on all cylinders this Thursday.

No. 19 Nebraska at No. 10 Michigan State

Nebraska comes into this ballgame undefeated and a win could mean they run the table in the Big-10.  Michigan State was a fan favorite in the Big-10 and sleeper for the college football playoff, then got thumped at Oregon.

This very well could be your Big-10 Championship in October. I like Sparty at home in this one.

No. 15 LSU at No. 5 Auburn

It’s the Battle of the Tigers on the Plains Saturday night as LSU takes on Auburn.  Auburn, while undefeated, has looked suspect at times thus far, like at Kansas State.

The rest of the SEC has written off Les Miles and his Tigers after Mississippi State walked in their building and dinged them.  But – Miles doesn’t get enough credit for being a quality football coach.  He’s officially made the switch to Brandon Harris at quarterback and their backs are against the wall.  Look for LSU to do just enough on the road to shock Auburn.

No. 1 Alabama at No. 11 Ole Miss

Ah Gameday finally comes to Oxford as this is the biggest game for the Rebs in 40-50 years.  Win, and you instantly become a real contender for the SEC.

The Rebs have played lights out defense through four games and look the part of a big time defensive ball club.  Bo Wallace looks like Bo Wallace.  A mid tear MAC quarterback putting up big yards and lots of interceptions.

Alabama is Alabama and do not be fooled.  They live for games like this and this is just another big game for their program.  Everyone is wondering if Alabama quarterback Blake Sims can play big on the road, but the real question is how will Wallace perform? In two previous meetings with the Crimson Tide, Wallace has thrown zero (0)- touchdowns, 2-interceptions and for a combined 282-yards.  Look for that trend to continue Saturday as Alabama wins their 11th in a row in this series and Oxford melts down.

No. 6 Texas A&M at No. 12 Mississippi State

SEC Nation invades the Junction for an 11 AM kick between the Bulldogs and Aggies and boy this should be a good one.  Actually, this may be the best game of the weekend.

Kevin Sumlin rolls in with his million dollar smile to take on Dan Mullen and Dak Prescott.  Last year these two battled to a 51-41 finish, with the Aggies on top.

This year both teams are a little different.  Obviously Kinney Hill is different than Johnny Manziel but that dude can spin the rock.  The Aggies are loaded with skill players and they have gotten better on defense.

Mississippi State finally has their play-maker at quarterback in Prescott, to go along with good receiver play and a running game.  The Bulldogs front seven is as good as their is in college football, but their secondary is suspect and will be stressed to the max Saturday.

This ballgame comes down to turnovers and special teams and for Mississippi State, they must establish the run and pound the Aggies.  The Bulldogs can ill-afford many 3-and outs and cannot fall behind by multiple scores.

A&M will be playing their sixth straight game, while the Bulldogs had last week off.  I like both teams here, but I like a rested, physical Mississippi State team a little more on Saturday.
