The Skinny: Both Mississippi State and Ole Miss are off to great starts in the 2014 football season. Both are ranked and have a chance over the next few weeks (starting this weekend), to show the college football world they belong.
Mississippi State has a signature win already this year, down at LSU just two weeks ago. The Bulldogs are out to prove they are worth their salt and the LSU win wasn’t a fluke.
Ole Miss has played smothering defense through four games, but finally gets a chance to prove against Alabama they are for real on the defensive side, or that they are fool’s gold.
What the National Guys are Saying:
Scott Vanpelt, ESPN Radio: “I’m so scared Ole Miss has put so much into this Game Day thing, that this is their Charlie Brown moment. Show up for the party – fall flat in the stadium. People ask me why I’m not going, it’s because this has Mississippi State – Alabama of two years ago written all over it – Blowout.
Brad Edwards ESPN Radio on who’s better, State or Ole Miss: Mississippi State has a signature win at LSU and has shown they are a complete team. Ole Miss hasn’t played really anyone yet and they have struggled offensively against Boise State and Memphis. I like Mississippi State.
Barrett Sallee on the Bama – Ole Miss game:
Dan Wolken on Bo Wallace:
WHERE WE ARE: It’s go time, let’s get it on and enjoy the greatest weekend in Mississippi College football history.
Now that we have established that, allow me to show you the world of Ole Miss and Mississippi State, through the eyes of Rebel fans. Let’s pretend you didn’t have eyes and couldn’t think on your own; all you had was what they told you and here is what you would know.
Red and Blue Spin Doctors:
First – Mississippi State doesn’t play anybody – EVER. And when they do and they win, guess what, they suck. Such is the case for the LSU game. Mississippi State went down and dominated LSU in Baton Rouge. The Bulldogs were only the third team to do so, in Baton Rouge, at night during the Les Miles era, joining Florida and Alabama. But, instantly the Tigers became bad and per Ole Miss fans, probably won’t win a west game this year.
It doesn’t matter that the facts are above on who has played who – State hasn’t played anyone because Ole Miss jimbo says so.
Secondly, Dak Prescott is NOT a Heisman trophy candidate. If you don’t believe me, ask Ole Miss fan. Or why don’t you fast forward to the 37-minute mark of this show and let David Collier tell you. Dak hasn’t shown them anything and Bo Wallace should be in the Heisman race.
Yes, the same Bo Wallace that has thrown 11-touchdowns and 6-interceptions and fumbled twice already this year.
It doesn’t matter that Wallace played poorly for 3-quarters against Boise and 3-quarters against Memphis. It doesn’t matter that against Memphis and Boise (Ole Miss’s best opposition to date) that he threw for 6-touchdowns and 5-interceptions. In Ole Miss Fans mind, he’s good Bo and bad Bo.
Now conversely, Mississippi State’s defense has played well in four ball games, minus six plays. Three against UAB that accounted for 244-yards and three against LSU at the end of the ball game. Let that sink in, six plays in four ballgames.
That’s six plays in 16-quarters, but this defense sux and they suck bad! As a matter of fact, if you challenge Ole Miss fan they will let you know that you suck because of those six plays.
Also State better be glad LSU didn’t listen to them and start their second string quarterback because State would have surely lost in Baton Rouge, even though LSU wont win a west game this year, per Ole Miss fan.
So it doesn’t matter that Ole Miss hasn’t faced an offense with a legitimate play maker at receiver, quarterback, running back or a good offensive line. Their Defense could very well be better than the 72-Dolphins.
And – it doesn’t matter that Wallace has played about on par with an average WAC quarterback. When he needs to, GUUUUUD Bo will come out and they will dominate Bama – watch them this weekend.
Also Dak? Man that guy cannot throw. It doesn’t matter that they beat LSU because LSU is garbage, just watch! And watch that defense that gave up three plays against UAB!!! They are garbage. You watch I tell ya! I’m Ole Miss Johnny and buddy I NOE because I am a rebel.
Here’s to everyone in Starkville:
And Oxford:
Because from what I hear, facts don’t matter, stats don’t matter, it’s what Ole Miss Fans say and by God pay attention to them and give them their respect. While you’re at it, stop talking about that other Mississippi team.
They haven’t beaten anyone yet anyway.
