Vic Schaefer and his No. 7 Mississippi State basketball team are gearing up for their biggest rivalry matchup. The Bulldogs are hosting the South Carolina Gamecocks tonight in what is the biggest game to happen in the Southeastern Conference so far this season.

The Bulldogs and the Gamecocks both are aiming to claim the conference this season and either team involved in tonight’s game could realistically do that. MSU won the SEC during the regular season last year and South Carolina claimed the SEC tournament title by beating out MSU for it.

So, this game could have huge downstream effects for the rest of the season in the Southeastern Conference.

MSU and South Carolina will meet up again later this season, but a win tonight would give Vic Schaefer’s Bulldogs an immediate advantage over Dawn Staley’s Gamecocks in the SEC standings. So, a win here tonight would give MSU a notable advantage over its closest competitor for the conference crown.

A win tonight won’t come easy though. South Carolina enters into this game on an eight-game winning streak. But, in all fairness, Mississippi State arrives in The Hump tonight with a six-game winning streak.
