With the 2017 edition of SEC Media Days coming to a close, the media released their consensus predictions for conference standings and all-conference teams.

Another SEC Media Days has come and gone, and with that means another round of media predictions for the upcoming season.  The media released their official projections this morning.

Not surprisingly, Alabama was picked to win the SEC West, and Georgia was picked to win the SEC East.  It is also not surprising to see Mississippi State picked near the bottom of the conference.  It has become a bit of a tradition for the media to undervalue the Bulldogs, but it was nice to see Dan Mullen’s team not be picked to finish last (as they usually are).

The good news for State fans is that it’s unlikely to see MSU finish that low in the West standings.  Mississippi State is currently on a 5-year streak of finishing higher than media projections.  The last time the Bulldogs didn’t meet or exceed expectations was in 2011.  It’s fair to assume that the trend continues.

In the voting for SEC Champion, Alabama won by a landslide.  The Crimson Tide took 211 of 237 votes to win the conference, per college football insider Brett McMurphy.  This comes as no surprise seeing as how the Tide have won the last three SEC titles.  The real shocker was that both Arkansas and Vanderbilt received one vote each to be SEC Champions.

Two Bulldogs made their way onto preseason All-SEC teams.  Quarterback Nick Fitzgerald and Offensive Tackle Martinas Rankin were both named 2nd Team All-SEC.  Considering the hype around both players, it makes sense that they would be named all-conference selections.

I was a bit surprised that neither Linebacker Leo Lewis or Defensive Lineman Jeffery Simmons were voted to any of the 3 teams, but nonetheless, it’s nice to see State players receiving some preseason love.  You can read the full list of All-SEC selections here.

Be on the lookout for Maroon and White Nation’s conference predictions, as they will be coming out soon.
