In another sign college football is getting closer, the players Mississippi Statechise to attend SEC Media Days in Hoover next Tuesday were announced. One won’t surprise you, but the the other two might.

More from Maroon and White Nation

QB Dak Prescott, DE Ryan Brown, and DB Taveze Calhoun were chosen to represent Mississippi State at the media extravaganza in Hoover. This is the second straight year Prescott will be at Media Days, and it is the first appearance for Calhoun and Brown.

Dak Prescott was a no-brainer. Prescott was the key cog in Mississippi State’s breakout season in 2014. Prescott set a number of school records in 2014, both for individual season success and for his entire career at Mississippi State. The exploits of Prescott led Heisman voters to give Dak the most Heisman votes in school history.

Ryan Brown is the leading returning pass rusher for the Bulldogs. Brown had 10 quarterback hurries and 3.5 sacks. He is one of the few returning starters for the defense.

Taveze Calhoun is also one of only three returning starters. Calhoun had 9 pass deflections in 2014 and 1 interception to go along with the three he had in 2013. Calhoun will be needed to plug up the holes in the secondary. It was the team’s biggest weakness during the 2014 season.

Considering the strength of the team was the offense last season, it is a little surprising to see Mississippi State choose two from the defense to represent the Bulldogs. It will be interesting to see what kinds of questions Brown and Calhoun will be asked next Tuesday.

The main focus though will be on Prescott. There will be plenty of questions regarding how he thinks the Bulldogs will handle losing the starters they did. I also anticipate a lot of questions about the Spring Break incident in which he, Torrey Dale, and Damian Williams were assaulted at a concert.

SEC Media Days is always a welcomed sight as it means we are one step closer to football. The Bulldogs will take center stage of Media days next Tuesday from 1-4 p.m. You can watch all the coverage on the SEC Network.
