The Way I See It – Week Four

facebooktwitterreddit

Week four of the college football season for 2014 is here and now we start separating the men from the boys.  Most of the patsy games are done and while there have been some good games early; the college football playoff will begin to take shape from this point forward.

Georgia crapped the bed again last week at South Carolina and will need to run the table to make the inaugural football playoff.  Who will be knocked out of contention this week and what else is on tap?

Oh yes, it’s also LSU week in Starkville and we will get to that big game as well.

Let’s dive into the matchups for week four.

Last week: 3-2 Yearly Predictions: 13-5

No. 4 Oklahoma at West Virginia

Oklahoma has been on a tear since last year’s thrashing of Alabama in the Sugar Bowl.  Bob Stoop’s team has blasted their way to 3-0 thus far in 2014 and look to take that momentum to West Virginia this weekend.

The Mountaineers have shown they can score points a plenty as they gave Alabama all they wanted in week one.  This game has upset written all over it, but Big Game Bob has the Sooners dialed in on another Big 12 Championship, or so it seems.

Florida at No. 3 Alabama

This game has tons of intrigue this weekend as the Gators roll into Tuscaloosa.  Just how much better is Florida from a year ago?

Can Blake Sims be THE guy behind center at Alabama and has the Tide lost it’s might on defense?

I personally haven’t ever been sold on Will Muschamp as a head coach so he is going to have to show me.  We know what Nick Saban can do and now is when Bama starts to turn it on, at home, during primetime.

No. 5 Auburn at No. 20 Kansas State (Thursday Night)

This is a classic case of old lion versus young lion.  Bill Snyder has been winning in Manhattan Kansas for decades now.  Gus Malzahn looks to be a coaching legend in the making.

It’s a Thursday night showdown on ESPN with big time players.  Auburn is hoping to make another run at the SEC and National Championship.

The Cats of K-State want to knock off their first ranked non-conference opponent since 2002.  Off the cuff, Auburn is the team of choice, but Manhattan, Kansas has swallowed up some good teams that have come in there.

Look for a rowdy sellout crowd in Manhattan and a ton of seniors to be just enough for Sniders bunch to shock Auburn.

No. 22 Clemson at No. 1 Florida State

Not surprising, Jameis Winston is suspended, AGAIN – this time for shouting sexually explicit phrases to a woman on campus.  Not to worry though, he is only suspended for the first half and I am sure that will teach him.

Clemson continues to be one of the better upper-tier programs in the country and should be jacked up for this one.  The Tigers are however breaking in several new players on both side of the ball.

Winston’s absence will hurt the Noles, but FSU head man, Jimbo Fisher has done a great job recruiting talent and building that program in Tallahassee.

The Noles do just enough to get by the Tigers this time around.

Mississippi State at No. 8 LSU

I have a very below average golf game.  I putt very average, drive the ball a little above average and my game inside 150-yards absolutely sucks.

Every time I see LSU on Mississippi State’s schedule and that week arrives, I feel like I am about to chilli-dip a shot from 125-yards.

My drive was good, I know if I can get to the green I have a shot, but how long will it take me to get there and will I just implode?

Mississippi State came off the tee fairly well as they sit 3-0 and make no mistake; this is an absolutely huge game the Bulldogs have circled for some time now.

LSU, also 3-0 has looked good at times and average at times. Les Miles takes a lot of crap in the media, but he is a really good football coach.

I really want to pick MSU in this game, but I’ve seen this so many times before.  A bad LSU team beat MSU 45-7 in 1998, the year the Bulldogs won the west.

One would think eventually the streak has to end and why not this year?  Why not by a team led by a Louisiana boy in Dak Prescott?  Both teams are physical up front and both teams do some nice things on both sides of the ball.

This will be the best defense the Tigers will have faced up to this point and the same goes for the Bulldogs.

The Dawgs have played well at times in Tiger Stadium, but have to do it for four quarters.

I hope I am wrong on this pick, I really do.  Trust me I WANT TO BE WRONG HERE.  But – just like my golf game, the Bulldogs need everything to go right or this chip shot will shank left into the water.
