Them Cajuns are the #1 NCAA baseball team for a reason. We dropped a tough one to chew to ‘em last night, too. The vast majority of chatter I’m seeing on social media, however, has been positive. I’m both happy and proud to see that this is the case.
I love that the Maroon & White Nation is proud of our boys and wants to show them overwhelming support thru thick and thin.
We have a very good chance of toppling the Cajuns tonight. We’ve got ballplayers on this team that never quit. We’ve got plenty of gas left in the tank on the mound. I’m hoping to see our boys come back and win this Regional in a big way. I believe.
I know… I know… A whole lot of Bulldawg fans have treated that word, “believe,” as if it were a curse recently. The result of the “We Believe” movement of the 2012 football season still leaves a sour taste in many mouths. We, however, are “believing” again. The majority of our fans that I’ve seen posting on facebook seem to believe that we will win this Regional. If we’re honest with ourselves, I think that most of us are looking forward to the 2014 football season, knowing the talent and potential that we have, with a whole lot of “Belief” as well.
I sure hope it’s not a curse. I refuse to accept that it is based on currently available evidence. I prefer to think of it as a new mindset — a new tradition for Mississippi State fans.
It hasn’t been all that long that “Believing” was highly uncommon among the Maroon & White faithful. Just a few short years ago, the mindset seemed to always be, “What’s going to happen to us this time? Who’s going to get hurt this game? What’s the NCAA going to do to us next?”
But just a couple seasons with programs moving in the right direction can change A LOT. So pardon me if, rather than cringe at the mention of “We Believe,” I take a little pride in the new mindset — the higher expectations — the stronger support for our athletes — the new Mississippi State tradition.
And to the young student athletes of our baseball team: Go get ‘em tonight, boys. Show ‘em what you’re made of. We’re behind you all the way. We Believe.
