MSU vs. Auburn Series Preview

I’m not a particularly superstitious man but two weeks ago I gave a half-effort rambling preview of the Missouri series. We swept that series. Every other week I’ve done a full preview of game times, pitching matchups, stats comparisons, etc. and State has not swept those series. They have lost three of them and won three of them, and are 8-10 overall in those six series. So with that in mind, I present to you another half effort rambling preview for the sole purpose of generating some mojo or juju or something good for this team.

Auburn is 44th in the RPI, MSU is 42. So right there it looks pretty even. State is 4th in the west while Aubie is 7th, however, they are only separated by two games.

MSU has actually done pretty well on the road. We won the UGA series, then swept Mizzou – overall a 5-4 record is solid. The trip to Arizona was bad, of course, but on the season the Dawgs are 6-7. It’s hard to believe that we have only played 13 true road games in a 46 game schedule so far. But six of the last nine are on the road, and in Alabama.

Statistically, Auburn looks better than State. They are better in batting avg. and slugging but not as high in OB%. They have a much better ERA and WHIP but their staff doesn’t strikeout nearly as many guys. They are tied for 11th in fielding percentage.

Bottom line, we’ve got to score some runs. Our record is 28-8 when scoring 3 or more runs, 0-10 when we don’t.

I am headed to Florida this weekend and will be stopping in Auburn to pick up my brothers who live there. I may or may not be at the Friday night game. I usually do the recaps around here but this weekend I will not have access to my computer, so what I’m going to do is set up a weekend internet tailgate (5 p.m.) kind of post where I’ll update the scores via my phone and y’all can discuss the games in the comments section.

Hopefully we’ll get this thing going again on the plains. Hail State!
