Dawgs Beat Eastern Illinois in Bottom of 9th

Mississippi State won in thrilling fashion in Game 1 of a multi-team double header on Saturday, beating Eastern Illinois 4-3. Reid Humphreys had a walk-off pinch hit with 2 outs and the bases loaded to get the win.

Trevor Fitts had another solid start in this game. He went 6.2 innings only giving up one run and struck out eight. Myles Gentry inherited a 3-1 lead but gave up a 2-run bomb in the 8th inning which tied the game. Jacob Lindgren came in and was able to finish off the game and get the win.

Gavin Collins had a big day. Not only did he go 2 for 4 at the plate including a single in the 9th inning rally, but he threw out three would-be base stealers. Jake Vickerson and Alex Detz also had a pair of hits.

MSU will meet up with EIU again on Sunday at 3:00 to close out the Diamond Classic.
